All children should have Technology Comprehension
Professor Ole Sejer Iversen welcomes the teaching of Technology Comprehension in primary schools but is puzzled about where the teaching competencies will come from and why it is only an elective subject.
In three years (2027), Technology Comprehension will be introduced in primary schools. In practice, this means that over a period of a few years, Technology Comprehension will become a part of existing subjects, and students in the upper grades will have the opportunity to choose it as a two-year elective.
The fact that Technology Comprehension will be included in the curriculum in this way is, according to Ole Sejer Iversen, a member of the DM Digi Committee, not a second too soon. He is a professor of Interaction Design at the Department of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University and the head of the National Knowledge Center for Digital Technology Understanding.
"In short, Technology Comprehension is no longer something we can see as an option. It should be a core competency for everyone," he says, explaining that there are several good reasons to make it a mandatory subject in primary school.
